May Member Profile: Jill Jayne

Name:  Jill Jayne (Pakulski), MS, RD, "Rockstar Nutritionist"

Graduation Year and Major:  BS in Nutritional Sciences, Minor in Theater, Honors in Journalism; Summer 2004

Occupation:  I am a full-time Rockstar Nutritionist! I founded a media production company called Note to Health, where we specialize in age-appropriate, interactive multi-media designed to teach kids about health. My most well known production is Jump With Jill, a touring rock 'n' roll nutrition show and CD that teaches elementary age kids about nutrition through music and movement. Watch me rock here!

Neighborhood:  Jersey City, NJ

How long have you lived here?  Four months. I moved to Jersey City from Manhattan on New Year's Eve and thought I would have total culture shock. Instead, I am loving my yard, my basement, my computer not being on my head when I sleep, my washer and dryer, and my reduced rent.

How often do you go back to Happy Valley?  I visited often when we released Rock on State, a CD of rock 'n' roll versions of the Penn State fight songs two years ago. More recently, I make State College a tour stop to perform in local schools and to give a "career day" talk to current nutrition majors.

What has changed the most at Penn State since you graduated?  I called people in college "kids." I don't really consider myself old, but I don't really remember being that young as a student.

Who is your favorite Penn Stater, past or present? My mom.

Favorite Penn State song to perform?  The Alma Mater. We did a Jimmy Hendrix-style version on Rock on State and it kind of makes my heart skip a beat every time we perform it because it rocks so hard.

The Corner Room or The Tavern? The Green Bowl

Peachy Paterno or Black Cow? Bittersweet mint

It's a random Wednesday night and you are out and about. Where are you and what are you doing?  When I'm actually home, my Wednesday night is always my circuit weight class at my new gym. I'm always on deadline creating something and surrender just in time for a good butt whoopin'. I show and watch The Daily Show and write into the night. This might not sound that exciting, but when I'm traveling I crave this normal routine because that's the best way for me to create quality work. Besides, hotel fitness centers are a joke and writing from a hotel bed is no fun without my cats to annoy me.
