Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends,

The NYC Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association needs your help. We’re raising money for the Michael D. Ferugio Scholarship, a fund that supports incoming freshmen from the New York City area and was named in honor of a truly great Penn Stater who tragically lost his life on 9/11. Last year, we were able to award small scholarships to three students – one for $1,000 and two for $500 – thanks to donations through raffles at chapter events, t-shirt sales, and a portion of membership fees.

I am reaching out to you because more deserving students applied than we had money to give. The cost of out-of-state tuition at Penn State is up to $31,434 for the 2016-17 year and this scholarship is one of the few places for high school students from NYC to seek financial aid to offset that cost. For them, every dollar donated matters.

We ask students applying for the scholarship to submit an essay describing what “Penn State Proud” means to them. The responses are always warm, heartfelt, and evoke instant nostalgia of what it was like arriving on campus the first time. For me, Penn State Pride means having the biggest family in the world, success with honor, and giving back to the place that gave me so much.

I ask that you consider a gift of $50 or more today. All gifts are 100% tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. As a volunteer-run organization, there is zero overhead involved with your gift. That means every cent of your donation is used to fund future Penn Staters. Getting accepted to Dear Old State is hard enough – let’s help make these students’ dreams of becoming Nittany Lions a reality!  Click here to donate:

Sincerely and For the Glory,

Lynn Hendrickson

President - NYC Chapter, Penn State Alumni Association

P.S. I also hope you consider becoming a member of the NYC Chapter today if you aren’t already. Annual membership is just $25, supports our Chapter activities such as networking events, club sports teams, and game watch parties, enhances the scholarship fund for incoming freshman from NYC, and is a great way to stay connected to PSU without trekking back to State College.
