Penn State Chapter of New York City Michael D. Ferguio Memorial FastStart Award

One of the most important goals of our chapter is to promote the welfare of Penn State and to provide service to our members. We’ve taken this a step further by creating a scholarship fund that can support and assist incoming freshman students from the five boroughs of New York City and Westchester County.

PSUNYC has created the Penn State Chapter of New York City Michael D. Ferugio Memorial FastStart Award. This award directly supports New York City-area students from underrepresented populations who participate in a program called FastStart. Students from New York City or Westchester County that participate in FastStart will receive a scholarship towards tuition.

The cost to attend Penn State University as an out-of-state student is now over $53,000 per year. The Michael D. Ferugio Memorial FastStart Award will help offset some of these costs while continuing to honor Michael’s legacy by helping Nittany Lions pursue their dreams of graduating from Penn State.

The selected students are recognized each year at our annual summer Freshman Send-Off Picnic in Central Park. The award is named after a former chapter president, Michael D. Ferugio, who died on September 11 (read more about Michael). Throughout the year, we hold various fundraising events, such as raffles and merchandise sales, which goes towards another endowed fund.
