The Michael D. Ferugio Scholarship Fund

One of the most important goals of our chapter is to promote the welfare of Penn State and to provide service to our members. We’ve taken this a step further by creating a scholarship fund that can support and assist incoming freshman students from the five boroughs of New York City. Each year, students from our area with the most need are asked to submit an application and essay...

Michael D Ferugio embodied the values of ambition, philanthropy, and humility. How do you embody these traits and how do you intend to incorporate these during your journey at Penn State.

The selected students are awarded a scholarship ranging from $500-$2,000, which is announced at our annual summer Freshman Send-Off Picnic in Central Park. Our chapter currently has one endowed scholarship named after a former chapter president, Michael D. Ferugio, who died on September 11 (read more about Michael). Throughout the year, we hold various fundraising events, such as raffles and merchandise sales, which goes towards another endowed fund. Scholarship endowments require a funding of $50,000 over a five year period.

If you are interested in endowing a scholarship in your name or that of a loved one, please contact our scholarship committee chairpersons or the president of the chapter.  All donations are tax deductable to the fullest extent of the law.
