All local Penn Staters (and friends of the University) are invited to join us on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 6:30pm for our first ever Penn State NYC Virtual Annual Celebration! The NYC Chapter Board of Directors is thrilled to announce Joe Battista as our guest speaker this year! Mr. Battista is a Professional Speaker, Author, and Owner of Pragmatic Passion, LLC Consulting and fellow PSU alum.

While we are saddened that we are not able to host this celebration in person this year, we are excited to celebrate the great year we have had as a Chapter with our Penn State family and give attendees the opportunity to learn about our plans and goals for the upcoming year! All registered attendees will be entered to win an autographed Saquon Barkley mini-helmet and have the chance to bid on silent auction items to benefit the Chapter's Scholarship Fund. The results of the 2020-21 Executive Board election will also be announced.

joebattistaAbout Joe Battista

Joe Battista is a professional speaker, author, and owner of Pragmatic Passion LLC Consulting. His first book "The Power of Pragmatic Passion" was released in September of 2018. He is the Vice President and Executive Coach for the National Athletic and Professional Success Academy.

Joe has spent his entire career helping to create, build, grow, and transform organizations and teams and serving "the greater good". He has been a coach and mentor for over a thousand coaches, colleagues, students, athletes, and campers in professional, collegiate, and youth sports. His passion for helping others is based on his long-time mantra that "someone has to care".  


In 19 seasons as the head coach of Penn State Ice Hockey, his teams won 512 games and six ACHA national championships. He helped secure the largest gift in Penn State history ($88 million) from Terry and Kim Pegula in 2010 to establish NCAA hockey teams and construct the award-winning Pegula Ice Arena. He was named Associate Athletic Director to oversee the project and transition the teams to NCAA status.
 

Joe is a former Vice President of the Buffalo Sabres and the Director of Amateur Hockey for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was also the Exectuvie Director of The Nittany Lion Club responsible for annual fundraising for Penn State Athletics. He is a member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. The American Hockey Coaches Association name Joe the 2014 winner of the prestigious "Lou Lamoriello Award" for his career contributions to college hockey. 

Joe is a 1983 graduate of Penn State's Smeal College of Business. He resides in State College, PA with his wife Heidi (PSU '81 & '83), and they have 3 children, Brianna (PSU '15), Jon (PSU '16), and Ryan (PSU Class of 2023).
